My Sunday walks by the beach

My beach walks in the weekend are always fun and definetly funny! Its unbelievable what you bump into in those walks...haha!

Last weekend, I walked by Copacabana Beach. If you dont know, Brazil is passing through an ellection time. Dilma (Lula´s protegé) X Serra X Marina!! People are crazy walking in the streets with numbers clued to their chest, flags, colours, screaming political things, and poluting the floor.

In the middle of that mess, I found a really cute old lady band singing old samba and bossa nova songs in a kioski at the beach. I made I video for you to see.
I hope you like!
Those are really old ladies with all problems that this great tie of life can bring you..some are even blind. It is so rewarding to see them overcoming their limits and reality and making art!

No art, no reward ...

Seth Godin´s yesterday´s e-mail also talks about art...I guess he always thinks about marketing and art in his analysis. Here it is:

"The problem with putting it all on the line is that it might not work out.

The problem with not putting it all on the line is that it will never (ever) change things for the better.

Not much of a choice, I think. No risk, no art. No art, no reward."

Wait it up!

I dont know if I have ever said this here, but I work at IBM and I am an artist on the free time (every free time). Its really hard to have a double shift, but really reawarding when I see the results and the comcretization of some projects.

Right now I have some projects going on and I have that feeling that I bet all producers and artists have to feel like you are useless. Sometimes you want it so much to happen (and fast) that you can not wait for the burocracy stuff. I am on that spot, where waiting and waiting started to feel like a default sittuation.

My friends know about my projects and always ask. My family knows about my projects and always ask. I know about my projects and I always have to ask: when will it ship?

This is not good to feel. I just wanted time to pass...months later...to the release, to the autographs, to the reactions, to the critics... For now, I am in default mode ... waiting.

So, I am trying at least to be actively waiting for some to happen. I a doing more and more, thinking more and more...producing more and more...calling and not getting answers, trying and not getting anywhere, contacting and networking and nothing concrete happening...but...at least I lfeel alive in the meanwhile.

Cest la vie!

Have a nice weekend. Wait!

Have a nice wait.

Hugh McLeod

Get off your phone, you backberry-evil, your computer, your twitter, you facebook, Ipod, Ipad, and come to life!
Its time! We are here...alive and next by!

I need you to see things my way - Seth Godin

I always subscribe to Seth Godin´s daily blog posts. The insights are related to marketing and business, but sometimes he talks about life, art, theories and all. Today´s post applies to our blog and I wanted to share with you all. He talked about the need that every artist has to make his audience see things his way.

You always want the message or argument stated in your art to be understood by everyone, but that does not happen often. Lots of people do not get it and thousands of others more get it wrong. Seth´s advise is to ignore it. Just focus on your public, the tiny prtion that gets it, and let the other come along later.

Check his argument:

"And that's the frustration of the artist who hasn't figured out how to navigate critics and the marketplace.

If you need the validation and acceptance and patronage of everyone you meet, you'll get stuck, and soon. Everyone isn't going to get it. Everyone isn't even going to get you, never mind what you sell.

Experienced artists and those that make change understand that the new is not for everyone. In fact, it's not even for most people. Pass them by. They can catch up later.

It's not a referendum, and you don't need a unanimous vote of acclamation. No, you merely need enough to stay in business, to keep moving, to make a dent. And then your idea can spread.

If the kids in the back of the bus/audience/store don't get it (or don't get you) it's their loss. Focus on those that want to celebrate the work you do instead."

Unrealized Potential by Hugh McLeod

As per the one cartoonist I like a lot: "This cartoon is a bit of a self-portrait of myself, just after leaving college. Young, kinda goofy, full of dreams and unarticulated ideas.

But it was that dissatisfaction with "unrealized potential" that kept me going. Even back then I knew, potential isn't enough. It never is."

For my sister

This is a post dedicated to my sister´s peculiar adoration for Hippos.
At the age of three, she got her first (wine color) hippo from my godmother and since then she has being collecting everything with hippos in it. The collection got wild when everyone one got to know this hobby of hers and started to buy her hippo goodies. Hippo pillow, hippo pencil, hippo magnetics, hippo candle, hippo painting (ok, that was me! I painted it), hippo books, hippo heart shapped butt stuffed animal, so on...
It got to the point that she even adores watching hippos pooping at Discovery Channel.
So, for my sister, Daniela Lanna, the fashion columnist of this blog, this post is dedicated to your hippos (my nephews) and you!

Hope you like!

And a funny one: when a hippo can make the zoo visit funnier with a private watery poop show!

Mr. Nobody

Tonight I watched a movie I intended to watch for a little while now. A friend from work gave it to me and said it was really good. as she has good taste and loves movies, I trusted her opinon.

I have never hear about MR NOBODY before as it never hit the cinemas in Brazil. I have a great discovery. The funny is intriguing, the plot is well developed. It is wierd and non-sens for a while and, by the time you pick it up, you can not stop thinking about your own life and choices.

The movie shows possible lives of Mr Nobody based on possible life choices he makes or is is put in to. The film message is that we cant go back, thats why it is hard to choose. So, you´ve got to make the right choice. As long as you don't choose, everything remains possible. But each of these lives is the right one! Every path is the right path. Everything could have been everything else and it will have just as much meaning.

A good passage from the movie is the following phrase said by Nemo: I am not afraid to die. I am afraid I havent been alive enough.

You can see all quotes form the movie here!

Check the movie trailler here!

Description: Nemo Nobody leads an ordinary existence at his wife's side, Elise, and their 3 children, until the day when reality skids and he wakes up as an old man in the year 2092. At 120, Mr. Nobody is both the oldest man in the world and the last mortal of a new mankind where nobody dies anymore. But that doesn't seem to interest or bother him very much. The only questions that preoccupy him in the present is whether he lived the right life for himself, loved the woman whom he was supposed to love, and had the children whom he was meant to have... now his purpose is to find the right answer.

It is worth watching it. It makes you rethink your choices and your life path...
Its never too late to WAKE UP.

Afternoon at URCA

Yesterday, I spent the whole day at Urca - one of the most beautiful Rio´s neighborhood -
doing nothing but talking, talking, talking and biking.

I found out a great bar called Bar Urca, which is a dirty feet bar in front of the bay. People grab their food and driks and sit on the bleacher to enjoy the view and the talk. A friend and I had sardine and a shrimp + cheese croquette. It was great!

The talk and the view are the best source of inspiration. Whenever you want to be filled up with ideas and wishes to read, to make art, to be pro-active and you are blessed to have this sceneary 15 minutes from your home...explore it! No white canvas, white papers, random chords can frighten you.

View from the Garota da Urca´s restaurant! The mountains align perfectly.

Peek the Bird!

Let´s take  peek at Jen Mankins, Bird´s owner house! Bird is a great NYC shop. I love how you can see a home personality. The objects and collors tell a story, tell a story of someone interesting and particular. That´s what home decor should do.

    Jen´s quote:

My decorating style is really eclectic and it would be an understatement to say I am not a minimalist! I love to mix and match styles, textures, colors, the more the better.  My husband is Swedish and I have been traveling to Stockholm with him for 12 years now. I have been greatly influenced by Scandinavian design, with its clean modern lines and shapes, but I love it paired back to all the hand-crafts, art and objects we pick up from our other travels. My personal design aesthetic definitely comes through in my shops and vice versa, there’s a lot of cross over.  I have been really inspired by and have learned tons working with my great friend Ole Sondresen, the architect of my stores.  He hails from Norway so brings his own dose of Scandinavian design history, focusing on the quality and integrity of the materials and the construction. We both agree that you can never have too much beautiful wood in a space. And I always try to incorporate some Josef Frank fabric from Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm. I am obsessed!

Love the HUG pillow.

What are those bottles there on the window?

I love shelves and books in an open and broad space.

I need a huge desk to work and organize my stuffs. A small desk like that would not do for me..but I love the pictures.

Nive beach pictures!

I love this house. It seems clear, energetic by the user of collors like orange and white and choice of fun decor objects.
