Material Girl: Lola Leon - by Fashion Columnist Dani Lanna

Do you recall when Madonna first came on the scene in her lace tutu and fingerless gloves and cross earrings? Of course you do! Right after that every girl reproduced the material girl style and, even if you were not there for the 80’s decade, the portrait of the 80's pop icon's style became famous all over the world and through the decades that is impossible not to know Madonna and get impressed with her unique style and energy.

If you miss all that style, I bet you will get delighted to know that Madonna is taking further steps in fashion! Together with her fourteen years old daughter, Lourdes Leon, Madonna will bring that same fashion back again this summer exclusively for Macy’s stores.

Their first junior fashion line properly named Material Girl hits Macy’s on August 3rd. The inspiration for the collection is the 80’s decade, specially Madonna and the Eighties retro style of Agyness Deyn, Lola’s fashion icon.
Lourdes Leon, also known as Lola, also debuted a blog to promote the launch of Material Girl collection.

In the blog Lourdes wrote: “I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah.”

The collection is awfully cute and brings a remarkable and personalized style.
And, yes, you can enjoy the preview for you right here!

Material Girl is the new fashion line created by the original Material Girl, Madonna.

You will find the coolest items, hand selected by the Creative Director, Lola Leon.
Lola helps to design awesome tops, dresses, jeans, shoes, bags, jewelry…the list is pretty endless.

It’s whatever the Material Girl loves, that they know you will too!

Shoe Fluer - by Guest Columnist Dani Lanna

Mixing art and fashion, photographer Michel Tcherevkoff debuted his virtual collection of fantasy shoes made from fresh plants and flowers.

The original idea came from a photograph of a leaf he once took and by putting it upside down he got inspired to twist, bend and cut plants to turn it into creative shoe and handbags.

With frequent visits to New York’s flower market he collected the freshest blooms used to create his provocative accessories.

His intention: please artist’s eye and fashionista’s soul …

… get pleased!

Fashion Rio - by the Fashion Columnist Daniela Lanna

Fashion Rio, one of the biggest events on the Brazilian fashion calendar. It started last Thursday, May 27th showcasing the major Brazilian designers' collections for the Spring/Summer 2011.

The theme for the 17th edition of Fashion Rio is ‘360º City on the Move’. “Rio, like fashion, is in constant motion. We’re in a city that is constantly looking to the world, and in its focus too,” says Paulo Borges, CEO of Luminosidade, the company that organizes both Fashion Rio and São Paulo Fashion Week.

I was there for the opening to check on the hottest happenings!

Brazilian footwear brand Melissa is lauching its collection for next season during both Fashion Rio and São Paulo Fashion Week. The hit of the collection is Melissa partnering with Italian architect Gaetano Pesce, who is in Rio to personally promote the new design.

At first sight, Melissa + Gaetano Pesce is an intriguing ankle boot made of different sized plastic circles. Totally customized, the owner of the Melissa can transform it into the boot she desires by cut out  circles!!!

I was there to check it out and tried some different shapes as you can see below!!!

The Brazilian bikinis brand Salinas joined Cuba and Brazil, more specifically the state of Bahia, to design a line of bathing suits with tropical prints and bright colors.

After the show, I met my ex boss, Amanda Mujica, one of the designers of Salinas.

Salinas's fashion designer, Amanda Mujica - An unique talent!

Better known for its fancy dresses, modern and sophisticated patterns and fabrics, Acquastudio, by Esther Bauman, closed the day showing its collection. Mixing shapes from architecture and origami, Acquastudio's dresses are ambitious fashion masterpieces.

ALICE MANIACS by Fashion Columnist Daniela Lanna

Last weekend, on April 21st, the movie Alice’s in wonderland was launched in Brazil. So yesterday, I went to the movies to check on it and I definitely give credit for its special effects, esthetics and costume design - and I could not expect less of a Tim Burton film! -.

Tim Burton is one of those directors recognized for its unique style and his colorful and folkloric way of telling stories. Burton once again imprinted an original eye for an already known universe. And despite not being a triumph in movie market, Tim Burton’s Alice is a magical and imaginative performance, delightful to be seen, especially with a fashion eye!

If you have plans of watching Alice in Wonderland you sure will be touched by its visual effects. Burton’s Alice arouses the imagination of spectators and fashion designer all over the world and soon we could observe its influence in fashion. T-shirts, nail polish, make up, jewelry, shoes inspired by the fanciful universe of young Alice, a classical children’s literature.

Urban Decay dedicated a limited edition of eye shadow called Book of Shadows which comes with 16 ultra pigmented colors. The book is illustrated with a pop up image of Alice in the mushrooms forest.

Following the new trend, the famous nail polish brand O.P.I. launched the “Alice in Wonderland Collection” with 4 super modern colors named: mad as a hatter, off with her red, absolutely Alice, thanks so muchness.

"Alice in Wonderland Collection"

Another brand that invested in the fantastic universe of Alice was Swarovski, with a line of super cute
accessories, as you can see below.

In Brazil, some brands also invested in “Alice” trend. The colorful flowers garden inspired the Brazilian jewelry brand H.Stern to design finger rings with elements of the movie as giant flowers and the famous cat of Cheshire. The rings will be part of an exhibition in São Paulo and available for sale only by order.

The Brazilian cloth brand Ellus also created a line of t-shirts with icons of the movie, which will be available for sale only at Ellus and Guest. Tel.: (11)3552-6699.

Another famous street wear blog is The Satorialist that brings the every day fashion from New York, Milan and Paris. The fotoblog exists since September 2005 and was refered by the Time Manazine as the Top 100 Design Influencers.
